Time Capsule Project

Welcome to the Coatesville Time Capsule Project! We believe that preserving our community's history is essential for future generations. Imagine the insights and stories we could uncover if previous generations had left behind a time capsule. It's time for us to take action and create a legacy. Below, you'll find an outline of our plan and the steps we intend to take to make this exciting project a reality. Stay tuned for more updates as we embark on this journey together!

     1. Choose a retrieval date

• Done - 50 Years out to be opened on July 4th, 2075​

• We picked 50 years with the hope that some of our grandchildren here today will be here in 50 years for the retreival.

     2. Identify a location

• Done - Will be buried in the cemetery in the vicinity of the Flagpole.

     3. Requirements for a Container​

• Done: Must be waterproof, Survive for a long period in the ground, large enough for contents.

     4. Container Option & Costs

• Done: Considerable research regarding the pros and cons between a stainless steal and composite container were reviewed.

     5.Container Recommendation:​

• Done: Stainless steel contained with a bolted design was unanimously agreed to be purchased.

• Purchase will occur in the Late July/early August timeframe when funds become available.

     6. Select Items to Include:​

• This tasks is in process

• Items to include letters from key town personnel, photos, artifacts, historical documentation research, and more.

     7. Preserve the items:​

• Each item will be individually sealed using archival paper, envelops etc.  A preservation kit is available for a time capsule.

     8. Pack the Container​

     9. Seal the Container

   10. Place and remember the time capsule

• Place in the cemetery with a flat stone with an encryption

• Plan for placement in the ground will be a small ceremony late in the spring/early fall of 2025.
